Quick Reference
The SQL Server CHARINDEX() function searches for a substring in a string, and returns the position. If the substring is not found, this function returns 0.
The first position in the string is 1.
SELECT CHARINDEX('k', 'Chicken') AS Position;

Syntax
CHARINDEX(substring, string, start)
Parameters
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| substring | The substring to search for (required) |
| string | The string to be searched (required) |
| start | The position where the search will start (first position is 1) |
