Quick Reference

The MySQL ASCII() function returns the ASCII value for the specific character.

The following returns the ASCII value of the first character in the last_name in the Customers table.

				
					SELECT ASCII(last_name) AS 'Character Code'
FROM Customers;
				
			

Syntax

				
					ASCII(character)
				
			

Parameter

ParameterDescription
characterThe character to return the ASCII value for; if more than one character is entered, it will only return the value for the first character (required)
