Quick Reference
The BACKUP DATABASE keywords are used in SQL Server to create a full back up of an existing SQL database.
Full Backup
The following creates a full back up of the existing database “Customers_db” to the specified path.
BACKUP DATABASE Customers_db
TO DISK = '\my-backups\Customers_db.bak';
DIFFERENTIAL Backup
A differential back up only backs up the parts of the database that have changed since the last full database backup.
The following creates a differential back up of the existing database “Customers_db” to the specified path.
BACKUP DATABASE Customers_db
TO DISK = '\my-backups\Customers_db.bak'
WITH DIFFERENTIAL;
We’d like to acknowledge that we learned a great deal of our coding from W3Schools and TutorialsPoint, borrowing heavily from their teaching process and excellent code examples. We highly recommend both sites to deepen your experience, and further your coding journey. We’re just hitting the basics here at 1SMARTchicken.
