Quick Reference

The window.parent property returns the parent window of the current window.

				
					<!-- html element to place output -->
<p id="my_output"></p>
				
			

The following script is placed on the child page and will write “Hello World” to the parent page.

Either of the following two methods will work.

				
					// variable
let my_message = 'Hello World';

// output to HTML my_element
window.parent.document.getElementById('my_output').innerHTML = my_message;
				
			
				
					// variable
let my_message = 'Hello World';

// output to HTML my_element
parent.document.getElementById('my_output').innerHTML = my_message;
				
			

Output

				
					Hello World
				
			

Syntax

				
					window.parent

// or

parent
