Quick Reference

The Element addEventListener() method attaches an event handler to an element.

				
					<button id="my_button">Try it</button>
				
			
				
					// variable
let my_element = document.getElementById('my_button');

// event listener
my_element.addEventListener('click', function() {
  	alert('Hello World');
});
				
			

Output

				
					Hello World
				
			

Syntax

				
					element.addEventListener(event, function, useCapture)
				
			

Parameters

ParameterReturn Types
eventThe event name; do not use the "on" prefix (click NOT onclick) (required)
Any of these events are applicable
functionThe function to run when the event occurs (required)
useCapturetrue - remove the handler from the bubbling phase
false - remove the handler from the bubbling phase (default is false)
