Quick Reference

The document.importNode() method imports a node from another document, and with the second parameter set to true, will also import child nodes.

				
					<!-- html element to place output -->
<div id="my_output"></div>
				
			
				
					// variable for source frame
let my_frame = document.getElementById('my_frame');

// get H! from source
let my_import = my_frame.contentWindow.document.getElementsByTagName('h1')[0];

// import the node and its child nodes
let my_node = document.importNode(my_import, true);

// output to the HTML element
document.getElementById('my_output').innerHTML = my_node;
				
			

Output

				
					(will output the H1 from the source frame and place it in the current document)
				
			

Syntax

				
					document.importNode(node, deep)
				
			

Parameters

ParameterReturn Types
nodeA node from another document (required)
deep(required)
  • false - only the node itself is imported
  • true - child nodes (descendants) are also imported
