Quick Reference

The Class extends keyword is used to create a child class of a parent class, which then inherits all the methods from the parent class.

					<!-- html element to place output -->
<p id="my_output"></p>

					// class
class car {
  	constructor(brand) {
    	this.car_name = brand;
  	}
  	present() {
    	return 'I have a ' + this.car_name;
  	}
}

class model extends car {
  	constructor(brand, mod) {
    	super(brand);
    	this.model = mod;
  	}
  	show() {
    	return this.present() + '. It is a ' + this.model + '.';
  	}
}

// add to the class
my_car = new model('Maserati', 'Ghibli');

// output to HTML element
document.getElementById('my_output').innerHTML = my_car.show();

Output

					I have a Maserati. It is a Ghibli.

Syntax

					class childClass extends parentClass

We’d like to acknowledge that we learned a great deal of our coding from W3Schools and TutorialsPoint, borrowing heavily from their teaching process and excellent code examples. We highly recommend both sites to deepen your experience, and further your coding journey. We’re just hitting the basics here at 1SMARTchicken.
