Quick Reference
The :last-child selector selects all HTML elements of a specified type that are also the last child of their parent element.
In the below example, if the last child of the parent element is NOT a paragraph, it will not be selected. Don’t confuse this by thinking that the last paragraph of the parent will be selected. It is only selected if it is also the last child of the parent.
/* selects every HTML paragraph that is also the last child of it's parent */
p:last-child {
background-color: black;
}
Selecting Multiple Elements
#intro, #footer, .my_paragraphs, h3 { background: white; }
Increasing Specificity
.grandfather #son .child p { background: white; }
h1.intro, p#footer, h1#header.primary, #sidebar#topper.image { background: white; }
We’d like to acknowledge that we learned a great deal of our coding from W3Schools and TutorialsPoint, borrowing heavily from their teaching process and excellent code examples. We highly recommend both sites to deepen your experience, and further your coding journey. We’re just hitting the basics here at 1SMARTchicken.
